Schloss Wocklum
In the heart of the Sauerland, in the valley of the Orlebach stream, lies the picturesque moated castle of Wocklum. It is home to the von Landberg-Velen family, an old Westphalian noble family.
In the first half of the 14th century, the noble family of Wockelheim (Wocklum) still lived there. The castle also belonged to the former Droste Hermann von Hatzfeld, who stood out as an opponent of the Reformation during the Truchsess War.
Since its acquisition by the Landdrosten Daniel Dietrich von Landsberg zu Erwitte († 1684) in 1656, the castle has been owned by the Counts of Landsberg-Velen.
A well-known ancestor of the family was Ignaz von Landsberg-Velen und Gemen (1788-1863), who had the Luisenhütte smelting works extended.
Since 1948, the Balve Optimum horse show has been held annually on the castle grounds, which goes back to Dieter Graf von Landsberg-Velen und Gemen.
The elegant salons, the large dining room and the elegant fireplace room are for private use. However, Jakob Count Landsberg-Velen and his wife Marie-Valerie Countess Landsberg-Velen are happy to open their historic home for exclusive events.
