Every Tuesday, the delicious smell of waffles attracts many visitors to the library - for years, the little wonders made from egg, flour, butter and sugar have been available to buy in the reading café on Tuesdays. And the secret stars of the event, which attracts young and old to the library, are the volunteer bakers. Michael Bathe, head of department and general representative of the mayor, has now expressed his thanks to them for the new year. Angelika Woossmann and Inge Plaßmann took over the baton from Marlies Menge almost eight years ago and have continued the tradition. They have accompanied and encouraged many children throughout their "reading careers".

"On behalf of the town of Balve, I would like to sincerely thank both ladies. With their commitment, they enliven the municipal library and ensure that people can meet and linger here," said Michael Bathe, addressing both helpers on site. The two ladies could do with some more help: Anyone who would like to volunteer as a baker once a month on Tuesdays to do something good for the visitors is welcome to contact the library team on 02375-666. Incidentally, the reading café will be getting an upgrade from 2024: there will now always be an accompanying reading activity, a games show or a small craft project. So the kids are definitely kept busy and learn something new with ease. The library's reading café is open every Tuesday from 3 to 5 pm.
